This blog reflects my weight-loss journey.  On this page you will read many things pertaining to the Trim Healthy Mama plan because this is the plan of action I have chosen to achieve my goal.

I don’t want to invalidate any other plans or programs that people are using to fit their own lifestyles, but THM is a great plan because I don’t want to count.  Math has never been my strong suit, anyway! LOL  I don’t want to count calories, and I don’t want to count points.  Rarely do I even count carbs. I do “simple,” and, so far, Trim Healthy Mama has been extremely simple.

In this blog, you will find many posts about food and recipes, too, but this is not a “food” blog.  This is the story of my ongoing journey of shedding pounds and reclaiming health for my life.  Of course, that will incorporate lots of posts about food, but it is not ALL about food.

It’s about my life: my emotions, my family, my job, my likes and dislikes, my opinions.

Life is not always pretty, pleasant or perfect, but it is what it is and our goal should be to make the most of it with what God has given us–and He has given us a LOT.

My hope is that you will find some humor along the way, as well as inspiration, motivation, helpful information (tips, pointers, etc.), and, yes, of course, even recipes.

As of today, I have lost sixty-four pounds since mid-July on the Trim Healthy Mama plan!  I am thrilled that you have come along for the ride!  Welcome!

  1. Hi Dirinda! I’m so glad a friend of mine told me about your blog. I too live in KCMO, north, and have been looking into the THM plan. I haven’t bought the book yet, but the success people are having with this plan is very encouraging.

    1. I’ve not been one to jump from diet to diet, so this is the only diet I’ve tried for years and years. Right now I’m at a sixty-four pound loss, and I believe this plan is very sustainable. I’m excited about it!

  2. I have enjoyed reading your post and you have been very inspiring to me. I have been trying the THM but struggling with it. Not sure what I am doing or not doing. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. How did you get started?
    Thank you,

    1. The main thing, for me, has been to do as many on-plan meals as I can each day. Breakfast. Easy. It’s either baked oatmeal or a FSF and a couple of pieces of Ezekiel toast with some low-fat cream cheese and Smucker’s Simply Fruit or Polaner’s All-Fruit. Lunch. Also easy. Either a nice big lettuce salad with lots of veggies and ranch dressing with sliced up lean deli turkey or a sandwich of some kind on Ezekiel or bacon and eggs or a smoothie. The longer you do this, the more choices you see. Even if you don’t do the plan perfectly, you will succeed if you follow the main premise. Stay away from all the white stuff: flour, sugar, rice, pasta, potatoes, milk and, most of the time, bananas. I don’t even buy milk anymore.

When I asked my doctor for diet pills last year in a last-ditch effort to lose weight and save my job, she said, “You don’t want diet pills. They’re bad for your heart, and you’ll end up having even more problems than you have right now. I guarantee that if you cut out the bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and bananas, the weight will drop off.” She was right. Basically that’s the THM plan, too, except to say that I also do my very best to separate my fuels (carbs from fats) and stop grazing throughout the day. It sounds hard, but it’s easier than you may think, especially when you have something as satisfying for breakfast as a yummy, sweet baked oatmeal.

  3. Dirinda,

I am so glad to see that you have a blog!! You may not know this, but I have claimed you as my THM BFF! I look forward to your posts because they are so encouraging! I have fallen off of the THM wagon, but I am getting back on, slowly but surely! Thank you for all of the encouraging words!

  4. Do we wait three hours after we finish a meal to eat again or eat again three hours after we finish eating our last meal?

  5.
